664 MONO NOIR continues the Mono Noir series, exploring the sound of a single vintage microphone. Every sound in this pack was recorded using an original 1950s Electro Voice 664, a legendary broadcast microphone known for its dark tone, gritty midrange, and unmistakable vintage character. Recorded in three different positions, including a crotch mic and two room placements, the pack delivers a roomy, punchy sound with plenty of depth and natural ambience.
Every Sound was pushed hard through a vintage Pioneer reel to reel tape machine and heavily sculpted with EQ to bring out a huge, punchy low end while preserving the microphone’s dark, mid forward character. The recordings were pitched up, pitched down, chopped, sliced, and processed through a wide range of analog gear and plugins to create unique textures while staying true to the raw personality of the 664. The result is a collection of gritty drum breaks, one shots, percussion loops, and hat loops built for Boom Bap, Lo Fi, Hip Hop, and sample based production, all with the feel of a real drummer in a real room.
